Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village.

John and his team provided planning and urban design advice to the “City Legacy” Developer consortium, which comprises Cruden Construction, CCG, Mactaggart and Mickel, W H Malcolm and Scottish and Southern Energy.  Early actions were working with the project architects RMJM to prepare the masterplan, then community consultation (which was more thorough and expansive that required by statute), assisting in the preparation of the Environmental Impact Analysis and co-ordinating all pre-application discussions with statutory agencies and stakeholders. He then managed the submission and approval of four planning applications: for the Athletes’ Village, the post-games development of the games sites, infrastructure upgrades, and developer showhomes. He then co-ordinated the discharge of planning conditions applied to each application with the project team.

Other sports projects for which John led the planning work were the Ibrox Masterplan and Regional Casino development for Rangers Football Club and Las Vegan Sands Inc. which was the first of the candidate regional casino’s to receive planning permission in the UK before the then-Government decided to abort the project.  John lead the preparation of a Townscape and Visual Impact Analysis as part of the planning application for the planned redevelopment of Tynecastle stadium by Heart of Midlothian Football Club.
